Past Projects
Reflection: "It was an amazing experience to plan an event, and it is a great skill to have for the future. I definitely learned a lot about paying attention to details and attending to last minute mishaps. I also got to interact with the facilitators and met a lot of wonderful people."
Description:Revising, adapting, and clarifying web content and design for the new website. Ensure good organization and ease of navigation for locating information. I was also responsible for the accuracy and maintenance of web content.
Reflection: "Working on the website was a very challenging project, and a task I had no prior experience with whatsoever. I was able to apply my skills in the area of marketing to specify the messages we wanted to communicate, and built an entirely new skill set in the area of web design. I was also able to apply the skills I learned to develop my own website. I learned a lot about clarity of language, effective communication, teamwork, and attention to detail by working on this project. "
Reflection: "Working on outreach allowed me to utilize my knowledge of the Leadership Center and its programs to appeal to different audiences. Speaking to recruiters from companies or graduate schools is very different than speaking to a group of students. It is important that you deliver information that is valuable to each audience, and are therefore more effective. I love to talk about the Leadership Center, so this was a very enjoyable project for me."
Description: My project was to meet with the representatives from the Panhellenic and Interfraternity Councils to coordinate a workshop for their Emerging Leaders Conference. This afternoon conference was held on campus and focused on self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and the correlation between these two aspects of leadership.
Reflection: "The best part of this project was meeting new faces on campus and to coordinate and facilitate a program that taught others about the value of self-awareness. I enjoyed collaborating with University student leaders to develop leadership programming.”
Description:Eta Kappa Nu, Electric Engineering Honorary, held its National Conference at the University of Illinois and they asked the Leadership Center to facilitate a workshop on Emotional Intelligence to participants.
Reflection: "I loved the opportunity to coordinate a workshop for the Leadership Center that was a part of a larger scale conference. It was a great opportunity to share our knowledge about Emotional Intelligence and leadership with students from all over the United States!"
Description:Marketing for Ignite is a fun and challenging process that provides ample room to think creatively. Marketing of Ignite included writing content for publication (website, brochures, etc.), organizing materials, and coordinating the program logistics.
Reflection: "Working on Ignite allowed me to develop my analytical skills as well as my networking ability. Ignite required me to observe the flow of the program while in operation and allowed me to evaluate the program with participants, facilitators, and co-workers. Marketing Ignite gave me a real life experience where I developed organizational, effective communication, teamwork, and problem solving skills. This was a great benefit for me because I use each of these attributes in my professional career everyday."
Description: Developed a leadership portfolio prototype for Leadership Certificate students to use as they worked toward preparing their own leadership portfolios.
Reflection: "The Leadership Certificate Portfolio allows the student to document their experiences throughout their time in the certificate program. It is perfect for applications to graduate schools or simply reviewing before interviews or important meetings. The portfolio should reflect the individual’s interests - something I had the opportunity to do while creating mine. I found this very useful."
Reflection: “Helping run these workshops has assisted me in developing my facilitation skills. I have also been exposed to amazing people on campus who I did not previously know. Assisting with the Intern Development Sessions has been an great opportunity.”
Reflection: "Marketing projects allowed me to communicate a message to large group of students. Whether I was building a large display board or creating overhead projections, it was always important to convey a clear and consistent message that would attract attention and be memorable. The best part of this project was the design aspect, something I hadn't had much experience with before. I have a new appreciation for the thought that goes into the details."
